Garrett-Evangelical Alums Show Unrivaled Support for their Alma Mater

June 12, 2014

Garrett-Evangelical alums have once again shown unrivaled support for their seminary. More than 300 seminaries are invited to report their fundraising statistics to the Council for Aid to Education each year, and this past fiscal year (July 2012 – June 2013), Garrett-Evangelical was ranked first in alum participation. More than 37% of the alum family made a gift to the Seminary!

Kay Burlingham, director of alum relations and the annual fund, was thrilled to learn that the Seminary ranked first in alum participation. “Our graduates validate the Seminary’s mission to educate religious leaders for the 21st century with each gift they make. Their enthusiastic response demonstrates their commitment to our current students, the Church, and the world. We are indeed grateful to the alum family for their tremendous support.”

The 4,500 living alums serve church and society around the world. Dozens of denominations are represented, as well as institutions of higher learning and non-profit organizations. Our alums as old as 100 and as young as 24 serve as bold leaders in their contexts.

Our alums give back to the Seminary for various reasons. In a recent conversation with Scott Carnes (G-ETS, 2010) and Carrie Berry Carnes (G-ETS, 2012), they stated, “We give to the Seminary because the financial gifts of alums made a difference for us when we were in school, and we want to be a part of making a difference for current students. Financially, we couldn’t have completed seminary without the support of alums. That’s why we wanted to start helping students right away, even if it was just little by little. The strong ties to Garrett-Evangelical for all alums is more than just financial support: alums encourage and mentor so many new graduates as they start their vocation in ministry. We are excited to be able to be part of such a great, supportive network.”

Garrett-Evangelical has been at the forefront of Christian theological thought, evangelical outreach, and social action for more than 160 years. This can only happen because of the vast and dedicated support of alums and friends of the Seminary who support our mission. July begins a new fiscal year at Garrett-Evangelical and your support is needed. To make your gift today, go to
