International Students

Garrett-Evangelical enjoys a significant population of international students and sincerely appreciates the variety of gifts and experiences they bring to the seminary community.

Admitted international applicants are welcomed to enroll, beginning in fall semesters only.  The deadline for submitting an international application is March 1st.  There is no separate application for admission for international applicants nor is an additional scholarship application required.  (All admitted international students are awarded scholarships equal to 50% of their tuition.)

However, international applicants must submit the following four (4) items, in addition to those listed for each degree application:

  1. Church Endorsement Form
Garrett-Evangelical strives to cooperate with churches in other countries by admitting those students who, in the judgment of their churches, will enrich their future ministry through the experience of ecumenical study abroad. It is expected that students desiring a first professional degree will undertake such a program in their home country or a nearby area whenever possible.
  2. Affidavit of Support
The United States of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires documentation of financial resources available to a student for education in the U.S., before USCIS will issue an F-1 student visa.  An applicant must therefore have a financial sponsor submit a completed Affidavit of Support.

  3. Bank Statement

  4. Demonstration of English Proficiency (TOEFL or degree taught in English)

All applicants for whom English is not their first language, and who do not have a degree from a college/university where instruction was in English, must demonstrate on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) that they have the English skills necessary to be successful in graduate-level studies. Garrett-Evangelical requires the following minimum scores:

For Master of Divinity or Master of Arts applicants:
     Computer Based - 230
     Internet Based - 88
     Paper Test - 570

For Master of Theological Studies, Doctor of Ministry, or PhD applicants:
