Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is committed to education for the church, the academy, and our world. Some students enter seminary seeking graduate-level degrees to help meet their vocational objectives and to help the church fulfill its mission. Others are looking for non-degree programs or coursework to help them fulfill their call. Each person's ministry is unique and we are here to partner with you.

ENRICHMENT STUDIES or AUDITING A CLASS

Enrichment Studies           
For those interested in taking classes for their personal enrichment only, or for those interested in exploring a degree program by taking one class at a time.  A maximum of 5 classes may be taken as an enrichment student.
 
Auditing a Class
For those wanting to take a class for which they do not desire to receive a grade.  Enrollment is subject to approval by the professor. 

International Students

Garrett-Evangelical enjoys a significant population of international students and sincerely appreciates the variety of gifts and experiences they bring to the seminary community.

International students may apply for admission beginning in fall semesters only.  The deadline for submitting a completed application is March 1st. 

A completed application consists of:

  • Online Application Form
  • Statement of Purpose
  • 3 letters of reference
  • Official copies of transcripts from all institutions attended
  • $75 Application fee
  • Demonstration of English Proficiency (TOEFL or degree taught in English)

    The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants for whom English is not the first language and who have not completed a postsecondary degree where instruction was in English.  Results are forwarded to Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (Educational Testing Service code #1245).  A minimum TOEFL scores, as follows, is required for admission:
  • Internet-based for PhD, MTS, DMin = 100; for MA and MDiv = 88
  • Computer-based for PhD, MTS, DMin = 250; for MA and MDiv = 230


I-20 Processing Information
In order for us to complete the I-20 form, admitted international students must provide information requested below and pre-pay for their first semester of study.  This money will be held in trust and will be refunded (minus the non-refundable deposit of $500) if for any reason you are not able to matriculate.  You must provide our office with proof of the ability to pay tuition, fees, and living expenses for the academic year. 

  1. $500 non-refundable deposit and pre-payment for your first semester of study.

  2. Church Endorsement Form
    Garrett-Evangelical strives to cooperate with churches in other countries by admitting those students who, in the judgment of their churches, will enrich their future ministry through the experience of ecumenical study abroad. It is expected that students desiring a first professional degree will undertake such a program in their home country or a nearby area whenever possible.

  3. Affidavit of Support
    (You may print off as many of these as you need). 

  4. Bank Statement or bank letter (see bank statement and letter guidelines below).  An original is not required for I-20 issuance purposes but is strongly encouraged for the visa application.

Bank Statement guidelines:

  • Must be dated within the last six months;
  • Name of account holder must be present;
  • Amount of money in the account must be listed;
  • Must be in English, or include a certified English translation;
  • Type of account (eg. savings, checking, time deposit) must be included;
  • Type of currency must be included.

Bank Letter guidelines

  • Name of account holder must be present;
  • Amount of money in the account must be listed -OR- letter must state that the holder has enough money in the account to cover the estimated costs;
  • Must be in English, or include a certified English translation;
  • Type of account (eg. savings, checking, time deposit) must be included;
  • Type of currency must be included;
  • Must be dated within the last six months.
