Crain-Seymour Workshop Facilitators

Rev. Annie Lockhart-Gilroy, PhD is Associate Professor of Christian Education and Practical Theology and Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, OK. She received her M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary and her Ph.D. in Christian Education and Congregational Studies from Garrett-Evangelical Theological School.

Rev. Dr. Heesung Hwang is Associate Professor of United Methodist Studies, Religious Education, and Leadership at Pacific School of Religion and an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church. Her research bridges theology, pedagogy, and social justice, with a focus on anti-racism and Korean American spirituality. Her book, Reframing Christian Education for a Global Generation, addresses the challenges of hybrid identity and presents a visionary approach to religious education.

Homecoming Schedule

All events will take place on the Garrett-Evangelical campus at 2121 Sheridan Road, Evanston, Illinois, unless otherwise noted. Specific locations will be provided upon arrival.

12:00–1:15 pm – Reunion Luncheons & Homecoming Lunch Loder Hall, 1st Floor Reunion Luncheons will be held in the President’s Dining Room.

 

 

1:30–2:15 pm – Spiritual Formation & Renewal Chapel of the Unnamed Faithful

We’ll spend time grounding in faith, Scripture, and prayer. Then we will connect with each other before we continue our Homecoming celebrations.

Garrett continues to stay firmly rooted in its mission for educating and equipping courageous leaders in the way of Jesus who will cultivate communities of compassion, justice, and hope at a time when that call could not be more important. In this session, we’ll hear from three of Garrett’s faculty—each of whom is a leading scholar, outstanding teacher, and director of one of Garrett’s degree programs.

9:00–10:30 am – Young Alumni Breakfast Room 205, Main Building All young alumni (you decide how young you are!) are invited to a casual breakfast to connect, re-connect, and enjoy each other’s company.

 

11:00 am–12:00 pm – Young Adult Initiative Conference: Morning Session Room 207, Main Building A panel of educators and young adults who participated in a retreat in Ireland with the Young Adult Initiative. Teachers and students will discuss their experiences in Northern Ireland and lessons learned about young adult leadership through the lens of peacemaking and storytelling. Retreat hosts Gareth Higgins and Brian Ammons will participate via Teams.

2:00–3:00 pm – Young Adult Initiative Conference: Afternoon Session A panel of young adults will discuss their experiences and what they learned about young adult leadership being part of a Young Adult Initiative-sponsored pilgrimage on St. Cuthbert’s Way in Northumbria, UK with Saio Journeys. Pilgrimage leaders Vince Amlin and Dawson Taylor will also be on the panel.
