Below you will find spelled out the terms for a position with the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, U.C.C. for the academic year 2018-2019. We are excited about you potentially becoming a vital part of our ministry! This position is open for a seminarian looking for field placement or part time employment at any place in your academic career.
Your dates of service for the year round internship will begin on September 4, 2018 through May 19, 2019 of which you will be paid a salary of $4000. These dates are somewhat flexible and open for conversation so that staff will not be limited the possibility of other ministry experiences. You are scheduled to work the equivalent of two days a week flexible work hours. A total of 16 hours a week. As is true with ministry some weeks will be more while others will be less but we emphasize the importance of boundaries and self care allowing for comp time and also allowing for the breaks with the academic calendar.
Paychecks are issued on a bi-monthly basis on the 10th and 25th of each month and will be subject to tax withholding and FICA. As a temporary employee, you will not be eligible for any benefits as outlined in the Employee Handbook. However, please take time to read the handbook as other terms and conditions of your employment are covered. This position reports directly to the Senior and Associate Ministers. Duties and Goals of this position are largely determined by you and will focus on areas of desired growth and development. Some examples are below.
- Meeting with congregants and staff at least twice a week to insure successful communication and social acclimation within the church.
- Attend and work with Jr High Youth Program and Confirmation
- Regularly lead or participate in worship, and preach twice a semester
- Assist with Pastoral Care as needed. (You are required to participate in Abuse Awareness and Prevention Training within two weeks of your hire date, fill out a volunteer disclosure form, and sign the Safe Sanctuary Policy.)
