Communications Director

            This person reports to the Senior Pastor and drives the development and delivery of both the internal and external communications of ministry of First United Methodist Church of Evanston aligned with church priorities


1. Produce and manage the implementation of a comprehensive communications plan

a. for established members of the congregation

b. for the general public looking for meaningful ministry and worship

c. for First Church visitors

2. Utilize current church software platform as primary communication tool for internal communications

a. Develop training for quick and easy access to such for church members

b. Look into alternate information mechanisms (such as e-newspaper format)

3. Develop and maintain a consistent voice and visual “brand” throughout all communication outlets including:

a. Social Media

b. Revise and expand on communication content and delivery (e.g. e-newsletter)

c. Website

  • i.     Coordination with church software platform
  • ii.     Maintain and update as needed
  • iii.     Ensure website is an effective tool for internal and external information sharing

d. Print materials

4. Serve as a “point-person” for a comprehensive church calendar in collaboration with church leadership and staff to assure that event dates, locations, and times are recorded and communicated to the appropriate audiences

5. Build, maintain and refresh a library of photos, videos, and other graphics for communication and promotional purposes ensuring privacy and appropriate release documents.

6. Meet with our clergy team and program staff and leaders regularly to understand priorities and timing of communication efforts

7. Provide staff support to the communications committee of our church

8. Monitor and evaluate the success of these efforts and implement changes if and when needed.
