Let’s Talk Globally: To Care for the Asian self is to care for the nonhumans

October 14, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

“To care for the Asian self is to care for the nonhumans.” Curious about what this might mean? Join us in person or online for a meal and conversation with Dr. Dong Hyeon Jeong, whose book Embracing the Nonhuman in the Gospel of Mark has sparked interest among both biblical scholars and those who care deeply about “creation and creatures great and small.” Together we’ll consider the following: What ecological and nonhuman roots ground our diasporic belonging? How does the ecological lens accentuate Asian identities? This salon-style gathering invites fresh ways of narrating identity and belonging as intimately connected to the nonhuman elements of creation. We will reflect on how animals, plants, and ecosystems shape our sense of self and community, and what this means for cultivating belonging in a complex, diasporic world. Co-sponsored by the Job Institute for Spiritual Formation and the Office of Student Affairs.
