At Garrett, theological education transforms faithful followers into courageous leaders who build communities of justice, compassion, and hope—equipping you for God’s call now and for what’s next.
“I would pray, ‘God, if it is you who I see in my dreams, I want to go to school.'” - An Interview with Simbarashe Ndowa, MAPM ’26
While the particularities of Zimbabwe are central to his call, he finds Garrett’s diversity essential in helping him follow it. “It is critical to meet different people and understand, ‘Who is God to that culture, to that person?’” he says with potent fervor. “All of us are coming from different perspectives, different life experiences. But we believe in one God, and that God wants us to save one another.” Click the link below to learn more about Simbarashe’s story!
Over the past four years, however, Garrett embarked on a radical shift in how we structure learning to be responsive to changing realities of theological education.
By adapting its academic models, spiritual formation, and community to cater to these students’ unique gifts and needs, as well as the busy schedules of people already serving churches, Garrett has attracted an abundance of learners at a time when seminary enrollments are shrinking across the country. Remote M.Div. Students at Garrett Tell Their Stories
“But the church has always been the place where I felt called to make a difference... Now I can answer that call.” Tim Cook, M.Div. student
While innovations that enable full-time remote education may be new, the underlying curriculum for training faithful ministers is the same regardless of whether people attend class from India or in Evanston. “The faculty are so pastorally focused,” Tim Cook reports. “I can tell that they design their courses so everything we learn is useful to someone serving a church.” Click the link below to read more about our remote students’ journeys!
