The lectionary texts for this past Sunday, the second in our Easter season, speak to us about peace and living together in unity, belief, and hope. “Look how good it is when brothers and sisters live together as one” (Psalm 133:1, CEB). Jesus tells the doubting disciple, Thomas, “No more disbelief. Believe!” (John 20:27, CEB). We never tire of the need for new life and hope and the need to hear words of encouragement. In these days, the violence that stems from our human frailty continues unabated, and so much of it is caught up in the fear and hatred of racial dynamics.
