DESCRIPTION:Do you long for a clear process to help you proclaim the Good News of the Gospel to all? \nThe course also aims to help preachers to offer to hearers the reality of divine transformation as the heart of the gospel proclamation. \nIt is based on the book Good News Preaching: Offering the Gospel in Every Sermon by Gennifer Benjamin Brooks (Nashville: Abingdon Press\, 2009).  \nThis course is built on videos filmed during the 2022 Workshop of the Styberg Preaching Institute. The course is free to all (with registration) because of the generosity of the Styberg Preaching Institute in celebration of its 20th anniversary.

SUMMARY:The Styberg Preaching Institute’s 20th Anniversary Chapel Service
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to join us in person and online for our community worship service in honor of the Styberg Preaching Institute’s 20th Anniversary. This Wednesday\, October 8 (4-5pm )\, Bishop Dwight S. Riddick Sr. will be our guest preacher.  He is the pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church\, Newport News\, Virginia. He received a BA from Norfolk State University\, MDiv from Virginia Union University\, DMin from Regent University\, a second DMin from Chicago Theological Seminary\, an Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising from Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy\, and completed the 2024 Collaboration Tract of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative. He has authored three books\, Does Preaching Have a Future?  A Call to Join the Conversation\, Reflections: Life Lessons I Learned from My Dad and Good Success:  Practical Principles for Achieving Your Life Goals from the book of Joshua. Following the worship service\, there will be a community meal at Loder Hall from 5-6pm\, which we invite you to join in fellowship and celebration.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an inspiring conference two-day conference featuring a keynote address by Emilie Townes\, Martin Luther King\, Jr. Professor of Religion and Black Studies at Boston University School of Theology. She will kick-off the conference by exploring “Accountability Strategies for Preaching in Chaos.” Using the framework of wisdom\, integrity\, and perspective\, Dr. Townes calls us to remain steadfast in the pursuit of justice and hope\, reminding us that while there is much work to be done\, we are capable of doing it together. \nA distinguished panel of scholars will further engage this theme\, featuring Rev. Dr. Cláudio Carvalhaes (Professor of Worship\, Union Theological Seminary)\, Rev. Dr. Dong Hyeon Jeong (Assistant Professor of New Testament Interpretation\, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary)\, Rev. DESCRIPTION:This workshop is designed for preachers and ministry leaders interested in exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and preaching. Participants will be guided by Reverend Jesus Rodriguez-Cortes to understand the fundamental concepts of AI and its relevance in ministry. Throughout the two days\, participants will be able to gain practical skills using AI tools for sermon preparation\, multimedia production\, and community engagement. In addition to leaving the workshop with a personalized plan for integrating AI tools into their preaching practices\, they will have developed a critical perspective on the ethical implications of using AI in Ministry. \nAbout the workshop leader: \nRev. Rodriguez-Cortes has 30 years of experience in the Telecommunications Industry\, covering a broad spectrum of technologies. He is accomplished in network design and operation including integrating AI in process and quality management and has had charge of educational events for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Puerto Rico for many years. SUMMARY:From Tolerance to Acceptance: Queering the Landscape of Ministry and Proclamation
DESCRIPTION:A Two-Day Styberg Preaching Institute Workshop\nThis workshop is designed for persons who wish to expand their ethical awareness\, ministry capacity\, and personal sensitivity to diversity and equity. Participants will be invited and guided in ways that both press beyond rigid binaries and dominant normativity and envision a more just future. Grounded in critical awareness of systems of hetero- and cis-normativity that shape Christian communities\, participants will be invited to expand their knowledge of queer history\, theology\, and ministry and to develop practical skills for serving communities of faith with attention to sexual and gender inclusivity and equity. \nLed by two scholars and academic deans who are also ordained ministers\, Rev. Dr. Pamela Lightsey and Rev. Dr. Jennifer Harvey\, this workshop will engage theory and practice grounded in real-world life experiences and commitment to and passion for ministries of justice and wholeness of life.
