Sabbatical Lecture of Dr. David Hogue Focuses on Neuroscience and Theology

EVANSTON, Ill., September 2011 -- Dr. David Hogue, Professor of Pastoral Theology, presented his research during his sabbatical lecture titled, Brain Matters: Toward a Practical Theology of Human Connectedness.  His research and presentation focused on the interface between neuroscience and spiritual identity and practice. Dr. Hogue observed that social neuroscience is making strides in the field traditionally understood to fall under the purview of theologians and religious practitioners. Said Dr. Hogue, “Biological science is making claims about the inner workings of the mind and soul, confirming some of our ancient convictions about personhood, and deeply challenging others.”

Dr. Daniel Yergin to Lecture at Garrett-Evangelical

EVANSTON, Illinois, September 2011 – Dr. Daniel Yergin, Pulitzer Prize winning author, CNBC’s Global Energy Expert, and chairman of Cambridge Energy Research Associates, will be lecturing at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary on November 2, 2011 at 4:00 p.m, the first in a series of events on globalization, sponsored by the Stead Center for Ethics and Values at Garret-Evangelical.

Garrett-Evangelical Celebrates the 2011 Convocation and Edsel Ammons Award

EVANSTON, Illinois, September 2011 – Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary welcomed a young, diverse incoming class of future pastors, scholars and community leaders at convocation. With more than 90 new students enrolled, the new class represents six different countries and 29 states with an average age of 29 in the masters programs.
