Father Michael Pfleger, Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, and Rev. Alexia Salvatierra Headline the Proclaiming Justice: The Challenge for the Church Conference
EVANSTON, Illinois, October 11, 2017 – The Styberg Preaching Institute at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary will bring together modern-day prophets Father Michael Pfleger, Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, and Rev. Alexia Salvatierra, along with 12 panelists of leading scholars and pastors, for a two-day conference to address critical issues of injustice that infect our society and call for a response from the church.
Proclaiming Justice: The Challenge for the Church will take place November 15-16, 2017, on the campus of Garrett-Evangelical in Evanston, Illinois. The keynote speakers include Father Michael Pfleger, activist and senior pastor of St. Sabina Church in Chicago; Rev. Alexia Salvatierra, author of Faith-Rooted Organizing: Mobilizing the Church in Service to the World and founder of the Faith-Rooted Organizing UnNetwork; and Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, renowned preacher and senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.
Speakers, panelists, and participants will tackle pressing matters such as immigration, violence, #BlackLivesMatter, DACA, and more that call for a response from the church and congregational leaders who proclaim the good news of the gospel. “These issues and more plague many in our society, and they cry out for justice,” said Rev. Dr. Gennifer Brooks, director of the Styberg Preaching Institute. “God calls the church to prophetic witness and to proclaim justice for all and we have a moral responsibility to respond. Come and be educated, encouraged, and activated to proclaim and work for justice in your church, community, and our world.”
The general registration fee is $100 and includes all meals. Continuing Education Units (1.5) will also be given to participants who attend all sessions of the conference. Graduate students will have their registration fee waived, but registration is still required. A limited scholarships are available for clergy.
