Dr. Philip Amerson, President Emeritus, to Serve as Interim Pastor at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado
The Rev. Dr. Philip A. Amerson, outgoing president of Garrett-Evangelical, will serve as interim pastor at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado beginning February 2014. Dr. Amerson, who retires as president as of December 31, 2013, will serve as interim pastor at St. Andrews UMC through June 2014.
In a video played for the 2,100 member congregation of St. Andrew this past Sunday, Dr. Amerson offered greetings and challenged the congregation to prepare for the future now by continuing to pray, worship together and to support the church’s extensive ministries with their time and money. Founded in 1960, St. Andrew UMC averages over 1,100 in worship, has a strong clergy and program staff and identifies as a reconciling congregation.
A cradle Methodist and an elder in the Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church, Dr. Amerson served as a pastor for 21 years in Evansville, Indianapolis and Bloomington, Indiana prior to being named president of Claremont School of Theology in 2001 and serving as president at Garrett-Evangelical since 2006. Dr. Amerson received a Ph.D. degree from Emory University in 1976, and a master of divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1971.
Upon retirement, Dr. Amerson and his spouse, Dr. Elaine Amerson, will reside in the La Porte, Indiana area – close enough to the train for an easy trip to Chicago and the grandchildren there.
