Discerning Your Call: Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary Open House
The Admissions Office at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary will be hosting an Open House for persons interested in pursuing theological education on October 3, 2018. The Open House will include presentations from key administrators, including President Lallene J. Rector, and faculty members, and conversations with current students about their seminary experience. In addition, a tour of the seminary and Northwestern University campuses will be provided, and attendees will also have the option sit in on a class on October 4th.
“Campus visits are one of the best ways to get a feel for seminary life and find answers to the questions that aren’t easily answered by a quick search of the website,” said Rev. Becky Eberhart, vice president of student services. “Our goal is to give prospective students a first-hand look at Garrett Evangelical and give them as much information as possible in a short period of time.”
“We really want to give students a real taste of life at Garrett-Evangelical,” adds Jillian Barker, admissions and recruitment coordinator. “That crash course includes hearing from current students, professors, and the many staff that make Garrett-Evangelical the intentional community that it is.”
On Wednesday, October 3rd, the Admissions Open House will begin with a light breakfast and welcome from President Rector and Rev. Benjamin Reynolds, dean of students and director of the office of student life. The morning session will be followed by a meeting with Admissions staff and an exploration of the seven master degree programs the seminary offers. Attendees will learn about field education, financial aid, and campus housing, as well as faculty highlights and vocational networking. Three faculty members will share what their work and interests look like in the classroom and in the field. Vocational Networking Director Rev. Katye Chambers will share information on the seminary’s mentoring program that pairs seminarians with Garrett-Evangelical alumni and on life beyond seminary. The day will conclude with attendees joining the greater seminary community for our weekly community worship and community meal. Persons interested in attending a class session will have the option to stay through the morning of October 4th.
Several on campus accommodations have been reserved for this event and will be available on a first-come first served basis; however, priority will be given to out of town visitors. If you require accommodations to attend this event, please contact Jillian Barker at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 847.866.3945.
