By Anne Marie Gerhardt, Northern Illinois Conference of The United Methodist Church

What do five pastors, in five different annual conferences and four different jurisdictions have in common? Besides the fact that they are all United Methodist elders and graduates of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, they’ve shared a unique bond for more than 10 years.

Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary Master of Divinity student, Katie Steele, has been selected to the newly formed Young Adult Network of The United Methodist Ecumenical and Interreligious Training ministry. Steele joins a small group of United Methodist young adults between the ages of 21 and 31 who will be trained in group leadership skills, the history and theology of the ecumenism, and the unique importance of Christian unity and interreligious relationships in The United Methodist Church.
