The Rev. Dr. Emilie M. Townes, renowned womanist theologian and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary alumna, will be the keynote speaker at Garrett-Evangelical’s 2015 Academic Convocation. The 2015 Academic Convocation will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in the Chapel of the Unnamed Faithful and is open to the public.

July 16, 2015 — The Styberg Preaching Institute at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the selection of PhD candidate, Andrew Wymer, as the first recipient of the Styberg Teaching Fellowship. Sponsored by the Lilly Endowment Inc., this fellowship is awarded to a promising PhD candidate or post-doctorate PhD in Liturgical Studies with an emphasis in homiletics at Garrett-Evangelical.
July 1, 2015 — Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is launching a new Doctor of Ministry (DMin) track in Community Organizing. Community organizing trains and equips clergy and community leaders with the knowledge and skills to analyze the power dynamics within a community, develop strategic relationships, and direct and focus the physical, theological, spiritual, and moral energies of the people within a community to create extraordinary changes for good.

June 1, 2015 — The Rev. Franz S. Rigert and the Rev. Samuel Phillips were named as the 2015 Distinguished Alumni at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary’s 158th Commencement on May 15, 2015. Each year Garrett-Evangelical chooses two alumni to be honored as Distinguished Alumni.
May 20, 2015 — The Forum for Theological Exploration (FTE) has selected Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary to participate in the first cohort of FTE’s Institutional Doctoral Network. Cohort members will join a learning community that explores how theological schools and doctoral programs may create institutional conditions where scholars and graduate students of color can thrive.
April 27, 2015 — Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointments of Dr. Débora Junker as assistant dean of student life, director of the office of international students, and director of the Hispanic Center. Dr. Tércio Junker will be appointed as dean of the chapel and director of the Course of Study and Escuela del Curso de Estudio programs. They will officially begin their appointments July 1, 2015.
