Garrett-Evangelical to Host Seminar in Conjunction with “The Bible Ministry Exhibition of the Protestant Church in China”

Bible_in_ChinaGarrett-Evangelical will host the third of three seminars offered throughout October in conjunction with “The Bible Ministry Exhibition of the Protestant Church in China.”  Held on October 19, 2011 on campus, this seminar will focus on theological education in China.  As the Christian community in China grows at a rapid pace, the work of equipping trained leaders for the church is vital for the future of this Christian community.

Rev. Gao Yin, President of Yanjing Theological Seminary, will share a reflection on the current work of theological education in China with Yanjing Theological Seminary as a model. Rev. Gao Yin has studied in China, the United States and Canada. Her academic interests include Christian theology, ecumenism, worship and liturgy, and feminist theology.

Rev. Bao Jiayuan, the Associate General Secretary of the China Christian Council and Director of the Bible Commission in China, will also present. He is currently Director of the Training Department of Shanghai China Christian Council headquarters. Rev. Bao Jiayuan will focus his presentation on theological education and lay training in China.

On Wednesday, October 12, the exhibit, “The Bible Ministry Exhibition of the Protestant Church in China” will open to the public for five days from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple.  This exhibit documents the now more than 23 million Protestant Christians living in China.   In addition to introducing the history of the Bible in China, this exhibition shows how Bible ministries have been carried out by Chinese churches over the past thirty years.  This exhibit has now traveled the globe, including Hong Kong, the U.S., and Germany.  To learn more about this exhibit visit
