Rev. Dr. James E. Will, alumnus and emeritus professor of systematic theology at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, died at 88 on September 10, 2016, in a single car accident. Will was a member of the faculty at Garrett-Evangelical for 39 years, first as professor of philosophical theology at Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Illinois starting in 1959 and later as professor of systematic theology in 1973 to the newly merged Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. Will retired and was named emeritus professor in 1998.

August 25, 2016 — EVANSTON, Illinois, August 2016 – Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary will welcome Rev. Dr. Michael C. R. Nabors, senior pastor of Second Baptist Church in Evanston, Illinois, as its keynote speaker at the 2016 Academic Convocation on September 7, 2016. Titled "Such a Time as This,” Nabors will deliver his convocation address at 4:00 p.m. in the seminary’s Chapel of the Unnamed Faithful and all are welcome to attend.
General Board of Higher Education & Ministry
August 22, 2016 — The publishing ministry of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) of The United Methodist Church has announced the editorial board members for its academic publishing imprint, New Room Books. Three faculty members of Garrett-Evangelical were named to the board, including: President Lallene J. Rector, Dr. Margaret Ann Crain, and Dr. K.K. Yeo.
Bishop-Elect Tracy Smith Malone and President Rector
July 14, 2016 — Rev. Dr. Tracy Smith Malone, distinguished alumna and trustee of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, was elected as a United Methodist bishop on July 13 at the North Central Jurisdictional (NCJ) Conference in Peoria, Illinois. Smith Malone was the first to be elected bishop at the NCJ Conference held at the Peoria Civic Center July 13-16.
July 14, 2016 — Beloved Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary trustee, Rev. Laurie Haller, was elected as a United Methodist bishop on July 14 at the North Central Jurisdictional Conference in Peoria, Illinois. We send our heartfelt congratulations to Rev. Haller and our prayers as she moves into this new role.
