Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is delighted to announce Jim Winkler, president and general secretary of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC), will speak at the seminary's 161st Commencement on May 11, 2018. A Methodist "Preacher's Kid," Winkler has been a lifelong social justice advocate and has held a deep passion for ecumenical and interreligious work. The Commencement service will begin at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Evanston. All are welcome to attend and to hear Winkler's commencement address titled, "Today, We Have Hope."

New Partnership with Garrett-Evangelical and Sious Falls Seminary
February 12, 2018 — On January 26, 2018, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Sioux Falls Seminary received approval from the University Senate of The United Methodist Church to engage a pilot cohort of United Methodist students in the Kairos Project, which offers a competency-based master of divinity program, at Sioux Falls Seminary. Garrett-Evangelical will provide a portion of the Kairos Project curriculum including courses required for ordination in The United Methodist Church, as mandated in The Book of Discipline.
DMin in n preaching as leadership in Hispanic/Latinx congregations
January 30, 2018 — Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is launching a new doctor of ministry track in preaching as leadership in Hispanic/Latinx congregations, with the first cohort set to start coursework in June 2018. Students in the track's first cohort will receive 50% tuition scholarships, thanks to the Leading Vibrant Congregations grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc.
January 29, 2018 — Continuing the seminary’s commitment to reducing student debt and addressing the financial needs of students seeking a theological education, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary has an additional 25 full-tuition scholarships available for individuals applying for admission as a full-time student in Fall 2018!

January 27, 2018 — In recognition of the 2018 Black History Month, the Center for the Church and the Black Experience at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Northwestern University, and numerous Evanston churches and organizations have worked in collaboration to create this Evanston community project.
Dr. Luis R. Rivera
December 22, 2017 — Dr. Luis R. Rivera, academic dean and vice president for academic affairs at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, has been elected to the board of directors for In Trust Center for Theological Schools. The In Trust Center for Theological Schools is a membership organization incorporated and based in Delaware. Its members include more than 210 Catholic, Protestant, and Eastern Christian seminaries, divinity schools, and theological colleges in the United States and Canada. With over 30 years of professional experience in theological education, Rivera was one of three newly elected members.
