On Wednesday, July 22, the Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary Board of Trustees unanimously elected Bishop John F. White as vice chair of the Board. In this role, Bishop White will perform a multitude of duties on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the seminary community at the request of the chairperson of the Board of Trustees. In addition, he will serve as co-chairperson for the newly formed "Garrett Together" Task Force.

July 13, 2020 — Garrett-Evangelical pledges to you our unequivocal commitment and support. You will have the classes that you need in the fall, but more than that, we will remain a robust learning community driven by the principles of quality, liberative, and equitable education. We will hold fast to the values that have guided our decision-making during our COVID contingency planning: 1) caring for the whole person and community; 2) providing trauma-informed teaching and care in light of our current disaster social reality; and 3) stewarding our resources to support the most vulnerable and to remain “Garrett strong.”

July 8, 2020 — The Calvin Institute for Christian Worship has awarded a Teacher-Scholar Grant to Rev. Dr. Andrew Wymer, assistant professor of liturgical studies at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and to Kristen Daley Mosier, a current doctoral student concentrating in the area of theology and ethics. Titled “Baptized in Toxic Water: Baptismal Solidarity Amidst Ecological Injustice,” this project will engage the baptismal practices of diverse Christian communities in Flint, Michigan, the site of a well-documented case of toxic water.

July 1, 2020 — Dr. Rodolfo R. Nolasco Jr., professor of pastoral theology at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, has been selected to attend the 2020 Summer Faculty Enrichment Retreat with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion program.

June 30, 2020 — Bishop Bruce R. Ough, a 1978 alumnus of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, has been named Distinguished Alum. In addition to Ough, Susan “Sue” Laurie, a 1995 alumna, was also named Distinguished Alum. Both Bishop Ough and Laurie will be honored at the 163rd Commencement service, originally scheduled for May 22, 2020, on Friday, May 14, 2021.
