EVANSTON, Ill., February 2012Intersection, the newest program at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, offers an innovative and simple way to earn Continuing Education Units, online. Intersection incorporates lectures by and reflection with the distinguished faculty of Garrett-Evangelical.

Over the course of the academic year, faculty members present lectures to the seminary community and public on topics ranging from theology, biblical interpretation, church history, and the church in society. These lectures celebrate the accomplishments and careers of our renowned scholars and showcase their current research and exploration.  Each lecture is videotaped and made available right from the seminary's website.

Intersection lectures can be used to earn CEUs for clergy and laity by completing a three-step CEU lecture program:

  1. Watching the presentation, either online or in person on the day of the lecture;
  2. Completing an assigned reading associated with the lecture;
  3. Write a reflective paper, which will be reviewed by a Garrett-Evangelical faculty member.

Once completed, individuals will earn .5 CEUs as determined by the CEU policy set forth by the Society for the Advancement of Continuing Education for Ministry (SACEM).  Participants are welcome and encouraged to register for multiple lectures.

"Intersection affords both the professional and lay person the opportunity to engage in cutting edge scholarship on their time and at an affordable cost," said Dr. Jim Noseworthy, Director of External Programs.  "Garrett-Evangelical offers quality continuing education opportunities throughout the year and we are pleased to add this innovative program to our list of CEU opportunities."

There is a $75 fee which includes registration and materials necessary to complete the three-step process.  To learn more or to see a list of available lectures, go to www.garrett.edu/Intersection.
