United Methodist Programs
Garrett remains committed to offering a variety of pathways for United Methodist students to reach their vocational goals in relationship to the United Methodist Church. Three non-degree United Methodist programs are available to students and leaders interested in completing coursework at Garrett.
- Basic Graduate Theological Studies: For deacons engaged in ministries of word, service, compassion, and justice. Offers courses that cooperate with annual conferences and districts to support students in completing their education requirements while assisting with on-site mentoring and support. Applications received on a rolling basis.
- Course of Study: a General Board of Higher Education and Ministry-Division of Ordained Ministry prescribed educational process that prepares full and part time local pastors in core competencies and skill development. Garrett’s COS is offered in both English and Spanish.
- Advanced Course of Study: A curriculum that enables a local pastor to meet the educational requirements for probationary membership, full conference membership, and ordination as an elder in The United Methodist Church. Local Pastors who have completed the five-year basic Course of Study and are at least 40 years of age may be eligible for ordination as an elder in full connection with the completion of a minimum of 32 hours of graduate theological study. Applications received on a rolling basis.
