UMC Course of Study | Session One
Preparing Licensed Local Pastors to Help Others Know God in Christ
Welcome to Course of Study! Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, a graduate school of theology related to the United Methodist Church, cooperates with the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of The United Methodist Church in sponsoring a Course of Study School. The Course of Study School educates and trains Licensed Local Pastors of The United Methodist Church.
The Course of Study School is conducted each summer for part– and full-time local pastors in English, Spanish, and Hmong. In addition, the Course of Study School offers an Introductory Year in Spanish which provides the educational equivalency of a License to Preach School. The curriculum is established by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of The United Methodist Church and recognition for completion of the Course of Study School is given by the General Board.
To be admitted, United Methodist students must have completed the requirements for license as a local pastor, been tested in language skill proficiency through a process determined by the annual conference, received the endorsement of the annual conference Board of Ordained Ministry, and be under appointment.
Students from the African Methodist Episcopal, African Methodist Episcopal Zion, and Christian Methodist Episcopal churches are welcome in courses when recommended by denominational leaders. Students from other denominations, including auditors, may be admitted at the discretion of the director.
