SUMMARY:Film Screening and discussion of ‘1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted a Culture’
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a film screening and discussion in Main 205 and online on the documentary film 1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted a Culture on Tuesday April 1 from 4:15-6pm. “The mistranslation of the word “homosexual” in the Bible in 1946 shaped modern Christian culture\, leading to decades of exclusion\, pain\, and division. However\, the 1946 production team\, along with many faith leaders\, scholars\, and advocacy organizations\, has been working toward a shared goal: exposing this historical error\, challenging harmful theology\, and advocating for full LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the church and in society.” Click here to learn more about the film. Rev. Dr. Cheryl Anderson\, Professor Emerita of Old Testament will share about her involvement with the film and facilitate our discussion. Movie snacks will be provided.

SUMMARY:Evanston Environmental Justice Conversation Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, April 5 from 1-3 pm\, we are hosting Alderwoman Maria Hadden who chairs the Chicago City Council’s Committee on Environmental Protection and Energy\, and we will have a panel of community advocates conversing around our theme of effective partnerships between municipal and community-based organizations. This is part of the Evanston Environmental Justice Conversation Series\, a partnership between the Evanston/North Shore NAACP branch and the Stead Center for Ethics and Values and the Center for the Church and the Black Experience at Garrett Seminary. Additionally\, we will be presenting a workshop on air monitoring to celebrate launching the NAACP and Stead’s new partnership on an “Air Monitor Library-of-Things” with the Evanston Public Library and Unitarian Church of Evanston Endowment. This project will have a specific focus on outreach to census tracts in Evanston most directly impacted by environmental racism so that persons can get specific external and internal readings on air quality in their home utilizing a free air sensor borrowed through the Evanston Public Library. \n  \n Location: Loder Hall @ the northeast corner of the Northwestern Place Parking Lot \n

SUMMARY:Let's Talk Globally: The Varieties of Spiritual Experience: Voices from the Ground - Africa & India
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person or online for a meal and panel discussion facilitated by Dr. Rolf Nolasco and featuring Yohan Davuri (MAPCC student) and Simbarashe Ndowa (MAPM student) as they explore how the cultural and religious traditions of Hinduism and African spirituality have influenced their understanding and practice of Christianity\, and how these traditions have enriched or challenged their faith in ways that encourage inter-religious dialogue. This conversation hopefully highlights the potential for enrichment and challenge when faith traditions intersect\, fostering deeper inter-religious dialogue\, and their engagement in addressing social issues that cut across religious boundaries. Co-sponsored by the Job Institute for Spiritual Formation and the Office of Student Life.
