DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Wednesday Chapel (4pm CT) and community meal (5pm) on November 15. Children of all ages are welcome to this Art of Ethics event: Cultivating Our Talents. Chapel will be a fully kid-friendly space that invites all those gathered to share our creativity. We recognize that kids get out of daycare and school at different times of day. We invite you for the full hour\, 30 minutes\, or the last five minutes—all are welcome\, no matter your timing. Community meal will have special desserts for children and youth. Student leaders will facilitate the children and youth of Garrett in art projects contribute to the Stead Center Art of Ethics.

Wendy Cordero Rugama will be facilitating a conversation dispelling some of the common misconceptions about Costa Rica and highlighting some of the most pressing current issues like femicide\, ecological destruction\, authoritarianism\, and religious fundamentalism. DESCRIPTION:Supported by a grant from the Lilly Endowment\, Inc.\, this free\, in-person seminar led by Rev. Dr. Reginald Blount\, will teach congregational leaders how to: \n\n\n\nUnderstand key issues that arise during organizational transformation\nDevelop tools for managing challenges\, mitigating risk\, and balancing priorities\nLearn new methods for motivating others\, engaging teams\, and leveraging resources and networks\nThink through a potential change initiative in your ministry setting and consider the necessary steps for successful implementation\n\n\n\nIn addition to a full day of instruction on change management\, $3\,000 mini-grants will be awarded to congregations who meet at least one of the criteria below and who attend the seminar to help implement the desired change initiative in their congregation. Congregations eligible for the $3\,000 mini-grant are: \n\n\n\nCongregations pastored by persons of color\nCongregations located in majority communities of color\nSmall congregations (average worship attendance of fewer than 50 people)\nRural congregations (communities with fewer than 2\,500 residents)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCongregations can register as a team of up to 4 persons – one pastor and up to three lay leaders. He also serves as the pastor at Arnett Chapel AME in Chicago. Blount has spoken nationally and internationally at numerous conferences and workshops helping faith communities envision new and creative ways to minister to\, with\, and on behalf of young people. Blount earned his Ph.D. from Garrett-Evangelical and Northwestern University’s joint program in religious and theological studies\, focusing on the areas of Christian education and youth ministry. He received his M.Div. from Candler School of Theology.

DESCRIPTION:Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is thrilled to be in partnership with the Association for Hispanic Theological Education! Together\, we’re bringing you the 2023 Justo and Catherine González Lecture Series\, “Incarnate Word: Preaching to Create New Realities” on Garrett’s campus\, October 13–14\, 2023. $30 per day\, or $50 for both. \nThis lecture series will be an inspiring event bringing together leaders of all levels in theological education\, from local churches to universities and educational organizations\, to open conversations. It will be a call to action—an invitation to congregate in search of a common purpose and a space where we can find inspiration and strength to carry the message of God’s love\, understanding\, and justice to every corner of our society. \nUPDATE!
