SUMMARY:Building an Abolitionist Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to build an abolitionist in the face of authoritarianism? How do Black-serving churches\, civic organizations and communities cultivate spaces of safety\, flourishing and liberation? \nThere is a critical connection among religion\, education\, and democracy. The Black church has historically created educational sanctuaries to teach their community what dominant society disallows. Education that transgresses hegemonic boundaries is a tool of resistance and liberation. From hush harbors and backwood classrooms to freedom schools\, seminaries\, and Historically Black Colleges\, and Universities\, the Black religious experience has (re)educated the miseducated to uplift the Black community and empower social action.  \nIn this course\, learn how to build an Abolitionist Sanctuary in your congregation and community. Participants will use Abolition Academy’s social learning platform and receive a verified certificate in Abolition as Social Change. To learn more about our facilitator Rev.
