DESCRIPTION:Styberg Preaching Institute 20th Anniversary Event\nOctober 7 – 9\, 2025 at Garrett Seminary\n  \nIn a world increasingly shaped by authoritarianism\, nationalism\, and historical revisionism\, the call to preach with steadfastness\, mutual accountability\, courage\, and clarity has never been more urgent. Faithful Preaching for Our Times is a homiletics conference that gathers pastors\, theologians\, scholars\, and activists to explore just and liberative approaches to proclaiming the gospel. Together\, we will examine how preaching can confront the forces that distort truth\, suppress justice\, and silence the vulnerable—while embodying a faith that resists\, liberates\, and restores in sustained ways. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual event on how to pursue theological studies in the US. Learn about Garrett Seminary\, a seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and situated in Evanston\, IL (near Chicago). Topics we will go over include our master’s level and doctoral degrees\, F-1 student visas to study in the US\, online study through Garrett\, tuition and fees\, and scholarships. All Garrett students receive scholarships! Join the Admissions team for this hour-long conversation to learn about how Garrett supports different calls and learn about which degrees might better support your call to ministry. DESCRIPTION:Join us on October 8th for a lunchtime discussion about pathways to ministry in the United Methodist Church\, and learn how Garrett can support United Methodist students in whatever pathway they feel led! Learn from alums\, staff\, and students about the ministry of: Elders – those who are called to ministries of “Word\, Service\, Order\, and Sacrament\,” Deacons – those who are called to ministries of “Word\, Service\, Compassion\, and Justice\,” Licensed Local Pastors – ministers called to a local congregation and community\, and Lay ministers – those called to live out their baptismal vows in non-ordained ministry. Join us for this hour-long conversation to learn how Garrett supports different calls and learn about which degrees might better support general or specialized types of ministry.

SUMMARY:The Styberg Preaching Institute’s 20th Anniversary Chapel Service
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to join us in person and online for our community worship service in honor of the Styberg Preaching Institute’s 20th Anniversary. This Wednesday\, October 8 (4-5pm )\, Bishop Dwight S. Riddick Sr. will be our guest preacher.  He is the pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church\, Newport News\, Virginia. He received a BA from Norfolk State University\, MDiv from Virginia Union University\, DMin from Regent University\, a second DMin from Chicago Theological Seminary\, an Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising from Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy\, and completed the 2024 Collaboration Tract of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative. He has authored three books\, Does Preaching Have a Future?  A Call to Join the Conversation\, Reflections: Life Lessons I Learned from My Dad and Good Success:  Practical Principles for Achieving Your Life Goals from the book of Joshua. Following the worship service\, there will be a community meal at Loder Hall from 5-6pm\, which we invite you to join in fellowship and celebration.
