SUMMARY:The Organizing for Environmental Justice
DESCRIPTION:The Organizing for Environmental Justice course\, running Fridays from 9 AM to 12 PM CT (January 31–May 7)\, is led by Rev. Brian Sauder and Rev. Veronica Johnson. Learn about organizing efforts for environmental justice with engaging discussions and insights. This course provides students access and learning through story telling by leaders at Faith in Place (www.faithinplace.org)\, a leading faith-based environmental justice nonprofit organization. This course will give students the practical tools and information to imagine\, understand\, and even create their own nonprofit organization.    \n* Enroll: Current Garrett students register online and Non-Garrett students must apply as nondegree/enrichment students\, please reach out to the Garrett Admissions Office at getadmitted@garrett.edu.  \n* Tuition: $2\,697 for academic credit\, $249 for audit/CEUs for the 3-hour course (fees not included).   This course can be taken either as a standalone (for auditors or enrichment students) or as part of a concentration (for degree seeking students) or a Certificate in Ecological Regeneration (for nondegree students).  \nFor information about the course\, contact Rev. SUMMARY:CHOOSE JUSTICE Scripture Study Group
DESCRIPTION:we are moving quickly into a time of challenges both known and unknown\, we need both biblical guidance and supportive community. Toward this end\, seekers and freedom fighters of all faiths and life backgrounds are invited to participate in this experimental weekly scripture study group\, which will run from Easter through Pentecost. Our gatherings will take place online on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. Eastern US Time (which is Wednesday 7:30 a.m. Philippines Time) starting April 22/23\, and going through June 3/4. We will engage with scriptures from the Revised Common Lectionary\, as well as other scriptures as the Spirit moves. This pilot project is co-produced by the Center and Library for the Bible and Social Justice\, the Alternative Seminary\, the Garrett Collective\, and other friends and conspirators.

SUMMARY:Sex\, Race\, and Jesus
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, April 25 at the Chapel of the Unnamed Faithful\, there will be a performance of the play\, ‘Sex\, Race and Jesus’ from 5:30-7pm. Sex\, Race & Jesus is a story of trial and triumph. R.C. takes the audience on a journey through relationship with their body\, their soul\, and their higher power. This is a raw depiction of how intimacy and introspection intertwine yielding glorious revelations and powerful convictions. This is a story of finding purpose in the midst of pain. Direct by Emmi Hilger. \nAbout the playwright: R.C. Riley (they/them) is a recent empty nester\, writer\, performer\, activist\, and warrior who began writing as a means of healing after a sexual assault. Their work examines the intersection of race\, gender (sex)\, sexuality and faith and seeks to find justice for and liberate those marginalized by society. R.C. leads workshops\, guest lectures\, performs short stories and solo shows at colleges and theaters across the nation. They recently toured Chicago and Wisconsin as Harriet Tubman in Great Works Theatre’s production of Road to Freedom. R.C.’s solo show include: Wrong Way Journey\, SOGI Say What?!\, Take It Easy on the Left Hand Please\, I’m Not Trying to be Funny & their most recent work\, Sex\, Race & Jesus. R.C. also has a podcast\, BE EMPOWERED! with R.C.\, which addresses topics of concern for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. Listen to episodes\, wherever you get your podcasts.
