Aware Magazine: Summer 2019
"I’ve had so many transformative experiences at Garrett-Evangelical that I could go on for pages. . . Garrett-Evangelical opened my eyes to reality. It expanded my knowledge and opened my heart. It provided me with perspective. It took my finite existence and demonstrated the infinite love of God."
- James Hofert (G-ETS 2019)
Congratulations to the Class of 2019! We commend them on their fine work and their future ministries. In this issue of Aware magazine you'll meet nine of our graduates who are going forth to live out God’s call to serve the church, academy, and world. In addition, you'll read about our commencement speaker, Rev. Grace Imathiu (pictured on the cover). Rev. Imathiu serves as senior pastor of First United Methodist Church of Evanston and she delivered a remarkable and inspirational commencement address titled, "Come Closer."
You'll also hear from Dr. Luis R. Rivera, who has now stepped out of the role of academic dean after five and half years of service. Dr. Rivera will be working on a number of writing projects in the coming year during his sabbatical. He says, "I consider my time at Garrett-Evangelical as the culmination of a journey of inquiry, service, and leadership that I have enjoyed."
This and more in the summer issue of Aware magazine. We hope you enjoy!
Aware is published quarterly by the Development Office for alums and friends of Garrett-Evangelical, a graduate school of theology related to The United Methodist Church with an ecumenical outreach.
