Outreach Minister for Intergenerational Ministries

Job Summary: The Outreach Minister for Intergenerational Ministries is a temporary grant- funded position, scheduled for service between January 1, 2018 and September 30, 2018.

In Year Three of a current grant-funded program for revitalization, we are hiring this “bridge” staff person to both build on work by our previous Director of Youth Programs AND to serve a vital role in shaping and leading new faith-focused outreach programs for our initiative “Strengthening Healthy Families.” Our goal is to continue and expand activities offer intergenerational and experiential learning. (This includes our own offerings, as well as group outings at wider faith formation or mission events.) For example, this minister will be responsible for these settings and tasks:

a) Sunday morning attendance (10am)
b) Service in Sunday School program as needed (10am)
c) Collaborative leadership of current After School program (presently on Tuesdays, 3- 5pm)

d) Work with Christian Education (CE) Committee to staff and implement intergenerational outings such as Feed My Starving Children or other mission events, faith-oriented youth conferences/concerts, Summer 2018 program series etc.
e) Collaborate with Rev. Belile to plan and implement grant-funded faith support programs for all ages (existing topical commitments and new ones to be explored)

The Outreach Minister will be supervised by Rev. Jacki Belile. He or she will attend, and serve as a liaison to, the Christian Education Committee which meets monthly.

Core Competencies:

 Ability to engage all ages in age-appropriate ways

 Some experience with neighborhood outreach

 Capacity to implement a vision already partially cast

 Capacity to coordinate and collaborate

 Ability to support faith and discipleship development in ways relevant to today’s world

Minimum Qualifications:

-- A track record in youth and/or intergenerational event planning -- At least three years of experience in a related field

-- Commitment to inclusive faith outlook and practices -- Seminary studies preferred but not required

Compensation: $15-18/hour, depending on experience. Independent Contractor (1099). Paid monthly. We are open to the possibility of this work providing seminary field education requirements for the right person.

Hours: 10 hours/week, nine months beginning January 1, 2018. Routine Sunday morning attendance is required.

Organization Description: Eden United Church of Christ is a small 103-year old congregation in Jefferson Park. In 2015, we began a revitalization plan which prioritizes relationships at every level -- intergenerational relationships among members, intentional deepening of connection with those sharing our building, educational outreach in our space in support of healthy families and organizations, and emerging partnerships in our neighborhood. Our programs are dedicated to both practical skills development and the deepening of attendees’ relationship with God through inclusive faith formation events. Our current Eden children and youth cohort includes fifteen kids age five to sixteen, with about seven of them able to be most frequently in attendance of Sunday or special programming. (Additionally, occasional collaboration with youth from two area churches may continue, a precedent established in recent years).
