Graduate Assistant

Leadership Development & Community Engagement at Northwestern is currently recruiting for 2 graduate assistants! These roles are focused on pursuing justice and equity by engaging NU students in the greater Evanston and Chicago communities and by supporting their leadership development. POSITION TITLE: Graduate Assistant

Reports to: Assistant Director of Leadership Development and Community Engagement

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Graduate Assistant is responsible for collaborating with the staff on various programs and projects. The Graduate Assistant will develop relationships with various constituency groups in the on-campus and off-campus community. An emphasis of the position will be working with student leadership and community engagement.


  • Assist in the development and implementation of programming related to student leadership development and community engagement
  • Support the planning and execution of the initiatives related to Neighbor2Neighbor, the Community Engagement Coalition, Books & Breakfast, the Leadership Framework, the Leadership Collective Impact Group, and other LDCE programs
  • Support student organization advisors and build capacity for leadership development and community engagement within student organizations
  • Develop educational tools and workshop curricula surrounding leadership development and community engagement topics for students, faculty, and staff
  • Collaborate with professional staff and campus partners as requested including, but not limited to, projects like assessment, leadership training, and program development
  • Coordinate large-scale programs related to leadership development & community engagement
  • Opportunity to support, develop, and/or facilitate Women in Leadership programming
  • Develop and manage marketing and social media/website for various LDCE events
  • Participate in LDCE, Campus Life, and Student Affairs committees, meetings, and events
  • Other duties as assigned QUALIFICA TIONS:
  • Commitment to racial equity and social justice, and commitment to ongoing learning
  • Enrolled in a graduate program for Higher Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, Social Justice
  • Education, or related field.
  • Interest in community engagement and/or leadership education as functional areas
  • Ability to engage others through delegating key tasks/functions, establish clear understanding of roles and expectations, provide feedback and guidance, and hold people accountable
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and prioritize
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts
  • Ability to write precise, well-organized emails, letters and proposals
  • Demonstrated success following through on commitments while incorporating objectivity, trustworthiness, honesty, respect and fairness in daily actions

$16/hour for 20 hours a week; hours vary based on events and meetings; some nights and weekends
