Director of Youth, Children & Family Ministries (3/4 Time)

The mission of the Glenview United Methodist Church (membership 428, average attendance 145) is to be “a supportive, multigenerational, faith community, that encourages positive change in people’s lives by connecting with God through Jesus Christ, connecting with each other, and compassionately connecting with the world”.  The church is a Reconciling Congregation with a strong community presence. The congregation is culturally and generationally diverse and is highly mission oriented.

The congregation seeks a Director of Youth, Children & Family Ministries who is inviting to our suburban community, diverse in teaching children, youth, and parents, and passionate about culturing relationships with families.  More information can be found at: glenviewumc.org

Job Expectations:

  1. Develop and lead youth, children and family ministry in coordination with the church’s mission, pastoral leadership, staff, and lay leaders

  2. Build and foster relationships with youth and parents

  3. Direct weekly to bi-weekly GUMY (Glenveiw United Methodist Youth) program (grades 7-12)

  4. Direct and teach confirmation program (grades 7-8)

  5. Organize and lead annual Youth ASP Summer Mission Trip

  6. Plan, organize, and lead weekend retreats for confirmands and youth

  7. Coordinate/Lead weekly Children’s time during Sunday worship service

  8. Oversee Children’s Education Coordinator (coordinator of Sunday School program for grades pre-school - 6th)

  9. Recruit and train volunteers to support youth programs

  10. Expected hours:  Average 30 hours per week including Sunday mornings over the course of a year

 

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Attend weekly worship services

  2. Attend weekly staff meetings

  3. Participate in district and conference sponsored events related to children, youth, and family ministries

 

Qualifications

  1. United Methodist Church background

  2. Ordained Deacon, degree in religious studies or degree in education (preferred)

  3. At least 2-years of experience supporting youth programs (preferred)
