Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary awarded $1.5 million from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help churches launch new ministries that will attract young adults – a population that congregations today are struggling to reach. The grant is part of Lilly Endowment’s newly announced Young Adult Initiative 2016.

December 6, 2016 — Lilly Endowment Inc. recently awarded Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary a $750,000 grant to help pastors obtain the education and business skills they need to be financially literate and address the economic challenges facing congregations today. The grant is part of Lilly Endowment’s National Initiative to Address Economic Challenges Facing Pastoral Leaders.
Rev. Dr. Cynthia Wilson
December 5, 2016 — Discipleship Ministries of The United Methodist Church announces the appointment of The Rev. Dr. Cynthia A. Wilson as associate general secretary effective February 1, 2017. Wilson has served as assistant vice president of student life and dean of students at Garrett-Evangelical since 2012 and will retain her responsibilities till January 31, 2017.
Sacred Sisters Retreat
November 1, 2016 — Registration for the 2017 SACRED Sisters Retreat, a gathering for Black clergywomen, is now open! The 2017 gathering will center on the theme, “Together We Are Reclaiming: Wellness, Spirituality, and Community,” and will take place May 4-6, 2017 in Northbrook, Illinois. During this three-day retreat, participants will learn how to support one another both personally and spiritually in healthy and positive ways through worship, prayer, and intentional rest. This retreat is sponsored by the Lilly Endowment, Inc., The United Methodist Church's General Board of Global Ministries, and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary's Center for the Church and the Black Experience.
October 17, 2016 — Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary’s newest center, the Center for Music and Worship in the Black Church Experience (CMWBCE), will be kicking off with a special launch celebration on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
September 15, 2016 — Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as a Seminary that Changes the World, Class of 2016-17 by The Center for Faith and Service. Each year, Seminaries that Change the World identifies a select group of seminaries and divinity schools offering innovative courses, programs, and opportunities for students seeking to engage in social justice and service work while in seminary.
