Steads Commit $15 Million to the Forging Our Future Campaign

On October 23, 2014, it was announced at the board of trustees meeting that Jerre and Mary Joy Stead of Scottsdale, AZ officially kicked off The Final Lap of the seminary’s Forging Our Future campaign with an additional $9 million—the largest single gift in the seminary’s history—bringing their total commitment to this campaign to $15 million!

Through a diverse curriculum taught by our distinguished faculty and prominent practitioners, students will explore the historical, theological, and contextual dimensions of global spirituality and apply that knowledge to their specific context. Each course also includes a spiritual direction module, which – when successfully completed – leads to a certificate in spiritual direction. Apply now and begin in January 2015.

To my ears, “We are all in this together” is a less overtly theological version of Paul’s appeal to the metaphor of the body in I Corinthians 12:26, “If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it” (NRSV). We really do need each other to get the job done and we need to value what each one can contribute.
