Degrees and Programs
Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary is committed to education for the entire church. Some prospective students enter seminary seeking graduate-level degree programs to help them meet their vocational objectives and to help the church fulfill its mission. Others are looking for graduate level coursework in order to help them fulfill their call to ministry.
Degree Programs
Degree programs fall into two broad categories:Professional Degrees - Primarily to prepare students for ministry, in congregations or in community leadership and service:

For continuing education or exploring a degree program. A maximum of 5 courses may be taken as an enrichment student (Some courses are not available to enrichment students.)
International
International StudentsGarrett-Evangelical accepts international applications for the Fall Term only. It is expected that students desiring a first professional degree will undertake such a program in their home country or a nearby area whenever possible. Currently, the seminary is authorized to issue documents only for the F visa. Admitted international students are awarded 50% tuition scholarships.
International applications must be complete by March 1st.
Church Endorsement -
Garrett-Evangelical strives to cooperate with churches in other countries by admitting those students who, in the judgment of their churches, will enrich their future ministry through the experience of ecumenical study abroad. It is expected that students desiring a first professional degree will undertake such a program in their home country or a nearby area whenever possible.
Applicants (except PhD students) must provide a Church Endorsement form.
Financial Resources -
The United States of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires complete documentation of financial resources for one full academic year prior to issuing a student visa. The seminary must receive a deposit equal to the total published budget for educational and living expenses (this includes the 50% tuition scholarship) for the first six-months of study prior to granting full admission and issuance of student visa documents.
Applicants must also have a financial sponsor supply an Affidavit of Support.
English Proficiency -
All students from whom English is not their first language must satisfactorily pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or have been awarded a higher education degree completed in English.

Newly enrolled international students must participate in an orientation transition program before the start of the fall semester.

Master Degree and Non-Degree Programs
The admissions office accepts application on a rolling basis. However, it is strongly recommended that an application be complete within two weeks before the beginning of the intended term.

Master Degree Programs
Master degree students wanting to be considered for leadership scholarships must have a submitted and completed application by February 1st.
Further scholarship preference is extended to early applicants.
Doctor of Philosophy
All tracks begin in the fall term.
Applications must be completed by January 20th.
Doctor of Ministry
All tracks begin in the January term.
Applications must be completed by October 1st to be considered for the following January term.
The DMin in Congregational Leadership and the DMin in African-American Congregational Leadership are offered every year.
The DMin in Mission in the Contemporary United States is offered every other year with the next cohort beginning in January 2014.
The DMin in Spiritual Direction is offered every other year with the next cohort beginning in January 2015.
The ACTS DMin in Preaching begins each summer. Application deadline is February 1.
