Master's Degree Procedure

Admission Procedures: Master's Degree and BGTS Program

Admission ApplicationAdmission Requirements

When to Apply

Admissions is offered on a rolling basis. Applications are due six weeks before the opening day of the academic period in which you intend to enroll. However, early applications receive priority consideration for admission, financial aid and housing.

Current undergraduates who can supply a completed junior year transcript may utilize that transcript for application purposes and later provide a final transcript prior to enrollment.

An interview with an admissions officer, by phone or in person, is required.

Visiting Campus

We strongly encourage you to visit the seminary before or during the application process. Contact the Office of Admissions at 800-SEMINARY or 847-866-3945 or by email to arrange a personal or group visit.

Application

Application forms are available online. Complete the application packet in its entirety.

Criminal Background Check

A criminal background check is required of all applicants.  Garrett will submit this on your behalf, provided you submit a residential address (PO boxes are not accepted). This process may take up to six weeks. No admissions decision can be made before this has been returned.

Personal Statement

Compose a personal statement of two to four pages in length. Describe your background, faith journey, significant life experiences, reasons for wanting to attend Garrett-Evangelical, and vocational plans for ministry in the future.

References

Choose persons to serve as personal and academic references for you (three references are required). Give them the letter of recommendation coversheets and ask them to comment on your intellectual, pastoral, and spiritual abilities. Guidelines for whom to ask to serve as references are on the application form. The recommendations can be mailed or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This includes transcripts of any course taken at any institution. If you are now in an undergraduate program, a transcript of your record may be sent any time after the end of your third year. The final transcript, which shows the earned degree, must be sent promptly upon conferral of your degree.

Application Fee

A $75 application fee must be received before an application can be processed.

Personal Interview

A personal interview is required before an admission decision is rendered.  This may be waived at the discretion of Admissions personnel.

International Applicants

International applicants may be required to provide a score from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to Garrett-Evangelical.

Admission Decision

Once we have received your completed application, you will receive written notification. If you do not receive notification from us within two weeks, contact us to make certain we have received your completed application.

It is very important that you request the appropriate letters of reference immediately, and that you encourage your references to return them as soon as possible, since no action can be taken regarding your application until they are received in the office of admissions.

While your application is being processed you can update your application information or check the status of your application here.

When all your letters of reference and all official transcripts have been received, your completed application will be forwarded to the director of admissions and/or the admissions team for evaluation. You will be typically be notified of your admissions decision within two weeks of the submission of a completed application.

Confirmation

Accept your admission on the "Confirmation of Enrollment" form, which you will receive with your letter of admission.

Within one month of notification of admission, return the confirmation form along with a non-refundable confirmation deposit of $200 plus a $55 Northwestern University NetID connection fee. Your $200 deposit is applied to your account for your first semester of study. A receipt will be provided for both amounts. Payment  of the connection fee provides up to 12 weeks of pre-enrollment access to a Garrett-Evangelical e-mail account, library services, Blackboard and other technology resources of the seminary and Northwestern University. If a notification of deferral is not received by the date of confirmed enrollment, the deposit is forfeited and/or if the application expires (applications are maintained for one year from the date of intended enrollment) a request for updating the application requires a new deposit.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

After you are qualified for admission, the director of financial aid will determine your eligibility for financial assistance from institutional, federal, and outside agency sources. Eligibility for leadership awards, academic or other conditional scholarships is determined after you are qualified for admission.
