New Student Orientation: Being a Community that Celebrates Difference

Congratulations on your admittance to Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary! We welcome you to the City of Evanston, the shores of Lake Michigan, and the campus of Northwestern University. You join a community that is over 164 years old and includes thousands of living alumni who are engaged in ministry across the country and throughout the world.

The 2017 Fall Orientation for new students will be August 30 - August 31, 2017, with International Student Orienation preceeding on Monday, August 28. Besides providing time to take care of necessary administrative tasks, the orientation schedule connects new students with their classmates, introduces basic concepts of theological education, and includes opportunities for worship, academic advising, getting acquainted with the Evanston area, and, of course, sharing food.

This year, we are particularly excited to welcome multi-media poet and teaching artist Joe Davis. Mr. Davis will guide students through a collaborative writing project and contribute to events and worship throughout the week. During the orientation worship service, Dr. Nancy Bedford, Geogria Harkness Professor of Applied Theology, will be preaching and Dr. Mai-Anh le Tran, our new Associate Professor of Religious Education and Practical Theology, will preside over the Eucharist.

You can find more information about this year's Fall Orientation here.
